Closed Systems

A concept borrowed from the field of Biology, in social science (human services) closed systems do not exchange feedback, energy or resources with agents outside of themselves. They are self-contained, incapable of structural change as a result of external feedback or influence. Human services systems (agencies, coalitions) are open systems (defined here).
